Lead stearate is white powder, insoluble in water, soluble in hot ethanol, benzene and turpentine, dissolved in organic solvents and cooled to become a colloidal substance, in the case of acid decomposition into stearic acid and the corresponding salt, hygroscopicity.

Lead stearate can be used as thermal stabilizer and lubricant of polyvinyl chloride, and has good lubricity and light thermal stability. With cadmium soap, barium soap or organotin compounds with good synergistic effect, can be used in a variety of opaque hard and soft PVC products, such as hard tube, rigid, thin plate, thin film and artificial leather, especially suitable for wire and cable materials, can give products excellent electrical properties.
